Generation of clean energy

We generate

our own clean energy

Eldorado Brazil’s industrial complex is energy self-sufficient, using clean and renewable power generated from the biomass of material not used in the production process, such as lignin and wood residue. This biomass is processed in a special boiler to produce steam that drives two turbines, generating green, renewable energy for our mill and partner industries located in our industrial complex. Any surplus is sold to the national electricity grid.
  • 1,536,000 MWh of green

    energy produced in 2023

  • 51% of the energy is consumed

at our industrial complex for pulp production

  • 28% of the energy is sold

to industrial partners located in our complex

  • 21% of the energy is sold

    to Brazil's national electricity grid

In 2021, operations began at the Onça Pintada thermoelectric power plant, located in Eldorado Brazil’s industrial complex in Três Lagoas. The power plant is a landmark in the pulp sector—it has never been done before and contributes enormously to our sustainability. Proprietary technologies developed by our engineers and designers allow us to use biomass from eucalyptus stumps and roots and wood residue to produce green, renewable energy. With this new power plant, we became the only pulp company in Brazil utilizing 100% of the eucalyptus in its production chain as part of a circular economy, meaning we produce zero eucalyptus waste. Surplus energy generated by the power plant is sold to the national electricity grid, providing the company with a new source of revenue and contributing to a cleaner national energy mix.

Unprecedented features

of the Onça Pintada power plant

the innovative process of producing biomass from eucalyptus stumps has never been done before in the pulp sector. Special equipment was needed for the forestry side of the operation, such as a hydraulic excavator to remove the stumps, adapted trailers to transport them, pre-grinding machines, and a rotating cylinder sieve to remove impurities.
